Conservancy of Southwest Florida

About the Client:

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is a leading environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the water, land, wildlife, and future of an ecologically important five-county area in southwest Florida.

The Problem:

This client came to us mainly just wanting to move their site to a better CMS with more control and thought they would just keep their menu and design the same for the sake of time. Then they talked to me. I helped them understand ways we could improve their site and how we could redesign it efficiently. The old site was outdated, not very mobile-friendly, not ADA compliant, and had way too many pages, many of which were buried up to 6 levels deep.

The Solution:

We did a lot of work to streamline their pages and create a comprehensive menu that doesn’t go more than 3 levels deep. We were able to eliminate the need for almost half their old pages by designing better pages with ways to present a lot of content in a simplified way.

I created a more modern look and feel for the site and created a much-improved mobile experience. Their old site relied heavily on yellow, green, and blue background colors but I choose to focus on more white space and imagery. I also designed custom icons for them.

We built the site in a very flexible way so the client has a lot of control. I trained them on how to use the CMS and taught them about best practices. They do not have retained services with us and have done a pretty good job maintaining the site completely on their own (although they have made a few background image choices that aren’t ideal and conflict with some ADA-compliance standards.)

The client was thrilled with the process and the end result and has recommended Blackbaud to many other organizations.
