IEEE Foundation

About the Client:

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world’s largest technical organization. The IEEE Foundation inspires an engaged community and leverages the generosity of donors to enable IEEE programs that enhance technology access, literacy, and education and supports the IEEE professional community.

The Problem:

The IEEE Foundation was struggling with awareness of the Foundation among IEEE members, and people that were aware of the Foundation didn’t understand the role the Foundation plays in expanding and supporting IEEE programs.

The Solution:

I worked with the IEEE Foundation to design a website that better explains who they are, what they do, and how and why members should donate.

I went through a strategic process to identify who their core audience is, what audience they want to attract, and what these audience groups look for in a philanthropic organization. This research helped inform my site map, wireframes, and content recommendations.

I did an audit of all their content and recommended what pages should be removed, combined, or updated. I streamlined their site map to focus on impact and simplified ways to give. I also designed wireframes for the site with recommended content hierarchy and messaging focused around explaining what they do and the impact donations have.

I created a new visual design and style guide for the site to allow the Foundation to stand out from other IEEE sites by using more color, custom iconography, and engaging photography.
