San Diego Humane Society

About:

San Diego Humane Society’s mission is to create a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. They are an open-admission shelter with a zero-euthanasia policy, making San Diego the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. They are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

The Problem:

Their old website had hundreds of pages that were difficult to find and not visually appealing. Every department was trying to put their content on the homepage, and it ended up being cluttered and convoluted.

The Solution:

I led them through a discovery process to discuss their current challenges and goals, then we did a user survey to gather feedback. We used that feedback to put together a new site map and content strategy that streamlined all pages in the site. I designed a new look and feel for the site inspired by their newly renovated adoption building. I built the site in WordPress using a page building tool and created a library of reusable design elements and templates so they can easily maintain the site on their own.
